I'm aware this "Sheriffs against doing Obama'a will" type malarkey is floating around now well beyond the Pacific Northwest. It probably has the same errata attached to it in each locality, insofar as crutch value to all incumbents who were amazingly no-trail re-installed in November due to their excellence poised to transform their economies in 2013.
For example, no sooner had the news hit the local papers in Oregon, when Mayor Sharon Kanopa next day had a letter published saying a local Sheriff refusing to obey Obama has caused her town instantly to lose all this convention and job investment cash just about starting to pour in for all 2013. This big cash and all is known only to her, as no one can cite WHAT, specifically, these things were; try checking at the local tourist authority and you're told THEY have no idea what convention(s) became lost. Ah, but Mayor Kanopa now joins a charge to unseat the Sheriff for all this trouble HE's caused...that'll keep the little folks twisted around, and as usual, you don't want to sound like a terrorist/molester/abuser/PBA/ADD/psycho/Ad Infinitum supporter, DO YOU?!?. We all know police can't be forced confiscate for or otherwise act for Feds in absence of statute or emergency declaration...even the Supreme Court of 1999 reflected this...but vae victus if we don't jump on pols' and their vanity press' bandwagon.
The reality is so few places in America EXIST anymore to go hunting, so few places exist to MAKE or BUY guns ANYWHERE anymore, so few people actually OWN any firearm or want to, and on top of all that ASSAULT WEAPONS are the least of the least owned, that it's like a ban exists anyway. And who needs such "mow 'em down" firepower to sweep streets with when they're worried only about themselves, to boot? That many people making bathtub gin, they never know when Little Caesar and a Model-T full of choppers is going to take their turf? In an invasion of America, 100 guys/gals with choppers will secure zillions of square miles as a "well-regulated militia"?
Most people probably just want to say no, of course nobody wants a Reichsfuehrer or Politburo or Secret Police treating all persons as at-large prisoners subject to pleasure of authorities, and that they're plenty satisfied with traditional police tactics including usage of even deadly force; indeed, who from the President to your local Mayor would say police failure to be Waffen SS is why they're miffed right now?
To reiterate, so few people even WANT weapons that it seems better here to argue move toward the British model of no citizens and only small squads of police can even own firearms in re civilian populations. Fess up, we all know what happens nowadays when lawmen use guns EVEN IF justified (remember Ramos and Campeon, or that Iraq vet cop in the South whose gun discharged when the perp's SUV rammed into him after ordered to halt). So ban all firearms...not just highly unpopular ones...from CIVILIAN NON-MILITARY possession, since "militia" meant "army" to Founding Fathers anyway.
And let's hope such easy, obvious issues don't result later this year in ACTUAL statements like "Um, who had time to read what we enacted...so busy with THE BIG ISSUE", or perhaps "Consarn it! My wealth-for-all plan was supossed to work, but it's all fizzled due to THE BIG ISSUE, but you still like ME on FaceBook, don't you?".
